“the trippening: drugs are OK when you want them to be”

And I run
run the stairs to her apartment door
kiss her when she opens, giving her all I have to offer
one kiss that contains all the love, all my love
the trip continues
my vision blurring into a flicker, hitching
I see a thousand stairs
blood dripping from each step
our kiss fading into the heavens
and I'm stuck here with ugly, beige-grey walls, cold stairs and blood

What an interesting poem. I'm guessing it's a tragedy by the way it ended. Very good attention paid to a rich metaphor, especially at the end. After reading it again, I think I get it. He hits his head while trying to go to his girlfriend’s apartment (or) he is dreaming this is what he did. At the end, he's home and lonely.
