The Warmth of Boats?
Just a pinprick now on the horizon
I watch as you slowly come near.
Your head bowed as though weighed with concrete,
your eyes show the pain and the fear.
Each step that you take brings you closer,
in spirit youβre still miles away.
Grotesquely your mouth twists in spasm
not forming the words they should say.
The buffeting wind sweeps you onwards,
but pride keeps you further apart.
Your body now creaky and wispy,
limbs fragile and weak like your heart .
The pain in your joints hot andΒ searing,
those legs now unbending, once pliant.
Suffering in Β silence no longer endearing
we all know youβre now pain defiant.
For so long youβve Β kept your love hidden,
cruel words said , but you never learned
that warmth comes from loving your kinfolk,
and not from the boats that youβve burnedβ¦..

This is brilliant! a story told which is clear, descriptive, uses imaginative language, has a beginning, middle and end , and most importantly engages the reader and draws them into what the writer has experienced and sees- Good poetry!Β xx
