Poem -

The Way She Left

i watched her that night
slam the door and leave
cursing my name so loud, it sounded like a different person
but it was me

she came to city to be with me
she left her home, the only place she ever known
brought two suitcases with her

one was filled with her belongings
her makeup
her clothes
her camera

the second one was empty
i remember her saying that
“one day, it'll be filled with all the memories you and i will make”

i was never one to smile
but
with her, thats all i ever did

i couldn't help it
the sparkle in her eye
the way her eyes fluttered when she was anxious
the way she looked at me
like… i was someone important to her

its been two days since she left
moved back home i’ve heard
but
i still see her
its like some part of her lingers in this house

the house
we argued about for days
she wanted to paint it yellow
i wanted to paint it white… we painted it yellow

its been two days since she left
i found something..a picture
she was smiling, her eyes full of lust

she lost that smile some where along the way
she lost the sparkle in eye
she lost herself in a way
its been two days since she left
i can’t stop thinking how she only left with one suitcase
but, yet she left all her stuff here

sometimes i go into her closet
just to surround myself in her again
i imagine her in every outfit she wore

its been two days since she left
today at noon i realized something
she did take something with her

it wasn't the millions of pictures she took
it wasn't the dozens of outfits she owned
it wasn't any necklace i bought her

what she took was…..
my heart..
