The Wine Route

The Wine Route

I drove towards Stellenbosch thro' lush winelands,
vineyards spread out in uninterrupted neat bands,
the blue mountains hazed the horizon beckoning,
there was no need for compass, just dead reckoning.

I wondered what Lanzerac was about to offer me,
it was so exciting to finally see your real destiny,
gazing down the valleys with so much of history,
the ghosts of Isandalwana left behind in mystery.

Flavours brushed my lips, delicacy of Nederburg Stein,
timeless bouquets like neat parcels to wine and dine,
Pinotage was strong and rich to establish a red bond,
Nederburg Rose' Sec was someone waving a magic wand.

The warriors were waiting with heaven you couldn't lose,
sunshine penetrated with shafts and unforgettable views.
