The Witching Mirror

Angelic witches gazed at me
Through the shattered eye
Of that one way looking glass.
They wrapped their grotesque digits
Around that crystal orb
Dimming its aura with grim delight.
Â
And from that ebony tower
They chanted their evil mantra
Knowing that only they could hear
The cursing call of their haunting words.
They concentrated and congregated,
A sister-hood of devils.
Â
The trees began to laugh
As the winds whispered to them
Their secrets and incantations.
And through the roots the toil
Was spread to soil and weeds,
The gardens of the witches.
Â
All the light became great darkness.
Roses died where weeds prevailed
And through the sea there spread a sickness
Then the breathing of the oceans failed.
Then sirens called me to the rocks
They seemed so sharp and darkly sweet.
Â
I cast myself upon the stone
To give my blood back to the sea.
I hoped for suffice in my sacrifice,
That man should once again be free.
The water revealed protruding fin
That swerved its way towards the wine.
Â
I woke upon that gutting bite
With deep pain writhing through my bones.
And on my ribs, a framed scarlet ridge
Was forming from the igneous blades before.
The walls, the bed, they were the same.
I could not trust the mirror though.
Â
Upon its knowing silver face
There spread a crack like crooked webs.
Then rising from my bed with haste
I darted to the mirror’s edge.
And through the shards and shining stitches
I saw the jealous eyes of witches.
