The year of plague

The year of plague

"All dressed up and nowhere to go",
so the year of plague said
life we knew is dead
be grateful we're still here

"Social distancing prevails",
the year of plague demands
so much sinking in the sand
simple pleasure now delights

"A new normal abound",
now the year of plague declares
for surely you must care
that danger looms so large

"What will happen now?",
the year of plague brings doubt
whilst all disgruntled shout
of conspiracy in our midst

"Our ways of life gone",
sacrifice brings ruin
the onslaught came too soon
as the wheels of commerce stall

"When will we meet again?",
travels stopped by fear
ceaseless fog won't clear
on what once was called plans

"For we will dance again",
hope's eternal glow
has taught us where to go
strength forever in our smiles.
