They Tell Me

They Tell Me

They tell me to smile more often,
When they don't know what's making me frown.
They tell me to stand a bit taller,
When they don't know what's chaining me down.

They tell me to talk a bit louder,
When they can't hear the words that I've said.
They tell me to think happy thoughts,
When they don't know what lies in my head.

They say to try and be happy,
When they won't see what's making me cry.
And they say to be more outgoing,
When they can't see what's making me shy.

They tell me to try and make goals.
But they can't see what lies in my dreams.
They say that I should look forward.
When they don't know the things that I've seen.

They tell me to try and make friends.
When they can't see the "friends" that I've made.
They tell me to stop cutting my skin...
But they can't see what's wielding the blade.
