Thinking of Others

Recent events made him look again
At his life, how hard was it and what was his outlook?
He disliked making efforts
Preferring instead
Magazines, newspapers and books.

Now that his father was ill
He was inclined to look at others
He had never been a carer
Nor had his father, nor really his mother.

Yet his mother had her own mother
To look after- though the latter was in a care home
So his mother had responsibilities
He had none of that sort of his own.

His life was hard he thought- maybe he was right
What though of the life of others?
Should he not consider they had their problems too,
Be they bachelors, spinsters or lovers?

He had no children reliant upon him
No marriage or mortgage
And problems for people:
There’s rarely a shortage.

He knew that he should get his emotions
Under control, put petulance to one side
And be more considerate of other people.
Life can be one bumpy ride.

It certainly can! You have a talent for portraying a very realistic picture.  Very good work.
