"This Addiction"

"In the beginning,
this addiction was so awfully sweet,
it floated me away from myself,
but I didn't notice the heat,
from the flames that started,
just underneath my feet,
but slowly I noticed,
the good parts of me,
were burning away,
even though I cried sometimes,
late at night,
hoping that they would stay.

Now that the illusion is shattered,
and the nightmare of it's use is clearly seen,
I'm crawling out of this grave,
by God,
today I'll stay clean!"
