This Christmas

This Christmas

A Winter Without You

Beneath the twinkle of the Christmas lights,

The world feels cold, despite its sights.

The carolers sing, the bells still chime,

But this year’s cheer feels out of time.

The tree stands tall, its branches bare,

Without your hands to place love there.

The stockings hang, an empty row,

Each one a memory of long ago.

I set the table, just as before,

But your chair is empty, it hurts even more.

The candle flickers, its shadow weeps,

For the promises time never keeps.

The snowfall whispers your name in vain,

Each flake a fragment of frozen pain.

They dance and settle, then melt away,

Much like the dreams we had that day.

I wrap the gifts, though none feel right,

For they lack the warmth of your delight.

And as I sit by the fire's weak glow,

I pray you’re somewhere the love still shows.

This Christmas eve, I’ll close my eyes,

And picture you under starry skies.

A winter without you cuts so deep,

Yet your love, my solace, I’ll always keep.
