Poem -

This road rolls on forever

(17 February 2020 on the road from Santa Cruz to el Calafate in Argentina)

This road rolls on forever

This road rolls on forever
All its straights and bends
Driving along Route 40
To our journey's end

This road rolls on forever
Across a scrubby plain
Where the riverbeds run dry
Through a lack of rain

This road rolls on forever
With empty lakes below
Waiting for replenishment
By winter rains and snow

This road rolls on forever
Away from Santa Cruz
To El Calafate
We have no time to lose

This road rolls on forever
Miles and hours flash by
Sun hidden by the clouds above
Road condition's dry

This road rolls on forever
Though not Route 66
We'll be there in time for tea
If the weather plays no tricks

This road rolls on forever
All its straights and bends
Driving along Route 40
To our journey's end
