This Thief
No one gives you lessons in how to not feel sad.
We’re never taught to deal with loss and grief
Complacency just starts to masks how life's turned really bad,
the life you knew now rendered to a thief.
This thief is silent, slow and cruel
unseen and never kind,
and mercilessly breaks each rule
to dominate ones mind
It starts by making simple moves.
Forgetting this and that.
A name, a place, a reason why ,
where did I put my hat?
The light goes out, within their eyes
now burns a gentler hue.
The smile remains for anyone,
no longer just for you
Then soon it will annihilate
the person you once were.
Your character assassinate,
your thoughts now just a blur
oh clever thief, you take at will
and know that when you do
your victim will not even see
or recognise it’s you
This thief of mind, this wrecking beast
Who steals the ones you love
You know they’re gone but not deceased
But can’t quite let go of…….

I have no idea what is wrong with Cosmo..It will not let me rate your poems..I wonder if anyone else has this problem or is it just your wonderful poems that they wont attribute votes to?This is a wonderful, heartfelt piece, beautifully written and with great rhythm. I am so pleased that your work is now being recognised world wide as you do so deserve this accolade. Never stop writing your wonderful words..so many of us just love them!

Oh I am so relieved that it isn't just me..I could get a bit paranoid about it ..if I had the mind to!! ..but actually it's the comments from other poets that I truly value and they are the things worth cherishing I believe. Thank you Sir Nigel for your lovely words and know that you will always be my top rated poet!

Such a brilliantly written poem. Dementia, it is indeed a thief! I have clicked 5 stars but wish I could click a hundred x
A brilliant and realistic write Lodigiana putting into words what so many want to but struggle to say.
A thief who always gets away scot free leaving behind nothing but angst, misery and heartache for so many concerned family members.
Thanks for writing and sharing and having seen its aftermath and thanks again for putting it into powerful words.
I wish you well and as always, stay safe and healthy my friend.
