Through The Wreckage

Restoring composition dolls (for me)

is kinda a Zen thing.

Bringing them back to their former beauty 

helps restore the child within my heart.

Childhood molestation and other abuse 

has caused irreparable emotional  and mental disabilities.

Each battered vessel restored

Is a part of myself.

One by one I am

restoring the little girl within me.

Every crack, chip, gouge 

and tear skillfully repaired

has been soulfully rendered.

When I first get them

I see the horrendous state of their condition.

Coming to rescue them of their plight

fills my heart with tenderness 

and understanding.

With each stitch and brush stroke I am

mending the wounds of a childs' tattered heart

Each little face restored 

expresses her innocence 

and hopefulness. 

Every frilly dress covers her battered body.

Every bow, gently placed, brings with it 

the tender touch of a loving mother’s hand.

Little one weep no more.

You are loved.

You are safe.

You survived.

Peace be in your heart dear little one.

I am here.
