Tick-Tock

Forgotten book of archaic rhyme,
Β Past is gone, but a moment in time.
Β Heart, ticking grandfather clock,
Β Midnight strokes phonic shock.
Β
Wind down antique chime,
Β Reminding we've run out of time.
Β Could I have done more with my life?
Β Or just destined to be mother and wife?
Β
Will my demise make a winkle in time?
Β Or omitted like outdated rhyme.
Β A clock is winding down, slowly halting,
Β Prorogue evermore revolting.
Β
Time and again sought wisdom's light,
Pardon arduous with hindsight.
Β Grandfather chimes enfeebled din,
Β Invite Grimβs skeletal grin.
Β
Hoard key which sustains clock.
Β Standing outside, poised to knock.
Β Keep vigil to fading heart-beats,
Β Ever so gradually, a ticking retreats.
Β
Grandfather clock slowly winds down,
Β Sound of silence so damned profound.
Β With my demise will sorrow be shown?
Β Reticent clock assures we all die alone.
