Time is of the essence

In time, the essence of life diminishes.
The daily trudge and toil,
Decays an active mind
Whilst feeding on its fear of fading,
Though I try,
To keep it healthy,
By feeding it information,
Sometimes I feed it a daydream
I didn't look for a muse
I thought I was settled and rooted
In a state of dumb repetitiveness
I toiled and gained nothing
But there you were
Like a beacon!
Giving me hope
When you kept none for yourself.
I try to remind myself
That I am rooted
But somehow my roots
Keep finding you
Tendrils of utter nonsense
Reach out and become
The master of my mind
Distracted by a dream of hope
I will never be yours
You, will never be mine
And like two magnets we repel
Those deep desires
We've admitted our fault
And looked to the stars
For answers to an idiotic question
Or to find out where to set the bar
The bars too high
The cause is lost
The hope you give remains
My hope
The dreams you have remain
Your dreams
And there I will stay
Hidden in your mind
Until time turns me
Into a shrouded, sepia memory
