A Time Long Ago

Decades ago was the time

When segregation occurred, a life way different than mine

The nation was different back then

Discrimination occurred over and over again

The people judged you by the skin you’re in

It didn’t matter what you were like within

Segregation was what it was called

And desegregation was what was stalled

A man soon came along and spoke about his dream

Which made things different; it made things gleam

Not only did he speak, he fought for rights

He wanted equality not cruel whites

The people soon changed and chose right ways

The nation became different and now equality stays

Hard times and hard journeys are what we’ve all been through

But these journeys and these times are what brought together me and you
