Can You Hear the Birds
Can you hear the birds
singing sweetly and softly
to my hear?
Their songs of innocence
though death is near?
And they tell us:
We’ll sing Kaddish,
with our very last breath.
let us not lose hope,
let our lives not be taken
by Death.
Lives and hearts weary,
every day gets worse
yet our voices will carry.
Keep the song alive
and with Fate, we’ll survive.
In this place of concentration
We are here, imprisoned, starved,
Shriveled from dehydration.
Fate’s wings are getting stronger,
trying to escape from my embrace.
I don’t want to lose Fate.
If she’s gone, she’ll be replaced
by Death.
She fights a good fight and
flies away from my hold.
Goodbye Fate, goodbye Grace,
Goodbye Heart of Gold.
Fate left the birds.
She took her wings and off she flew.
There was no chance to live
no more prayers to give.
no emotions to convey.
no thoughts to say.
And slowly they stopped singing
because hearts stopped beating.
Their lives were brought to an end,
And their songs were never heard again
