Poem -

To Be or Not to Be

To be myself

Or not to be myself

Living in this world like a book on the shelf

Judging my cover like everyone else

You see brown skin

Then you start to begin

To criticize our color

Criminalize our brother

Then accuse for our past sins

You don't even try to know our name

You just point out our game

Just to put us to shame

But when we come out on top

You demand we stop

To put your kids ahead

When our kids need bread

But all we can afford is inedible rot

And I'm sure that day will come

When we will be able to rise as one

Out of poverty

Out of drugs

Out of abuse

And turn to love

So to my people

I encourage you to be yourself

Not anyone else

Follow your heart

Like its an art

Because just like you

There's no one else I need to beΒ

Than me.
