To Break a Writer's Heart
Inspired by reddit writers
Usually, when a heart is shattered and the broken pieces are scattered like nightmare confetti around the room
Most will view the scene and wish to make it clean and fetch a pan and broom
But when you break a writers wretched wailing weak yet hardened heart
When our mind starts to bend and break as our soul is ripped apart
We still salvage something grand, and of far more value to us than your affection, so, dear, do your best to worry nought
This torment turns the gears in our clanking clock work minds the right direction and like gods, we create universes from the intangible realm of thought
For in our sacred sadness there is more beauty to behold than could be found in the eyes of a lover no matter how true they be
And when you break a poet hearts paper thin and brittle skin you set an entire universe of constrained and captive alliteration free
In this twisted mutual madness of longing and pain where each is left bleeding red and pink
One may bleed the substance they need... As for my kind, we bleed ink

As a description of what pain, sadness and a broken heart can provoke in a poet this is quite brilliant. The verse that begins "for in our sacred sadness ...." is my favourite. I love "sacred sadness" as a phrase. Also the verse ending " ...... constrained and captive alliteration free" is great.
I have often felt that, though poets write about love, they are at their best when writing of the pain of love. Just my feeling.
You certainly set your captive alliteration free in this poem.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, you could say I have been quite inspired recently. It brought to mind how I always say (or at least think) "Thanks for the poetry fuel" when I have been really hurt. 🫶
Yvw. Yes thanks for the poetry fuel. I like that. 🫶
