One Was The Friend
Gröne Lunden- for Baker
I have never seen a smile that shines
Quiet as bright as the one he shows me
A thousand supernova bursting in the sky
Could not radiate such power so brilliantly
I have never known a friend to step into the fire
And calmly find a place beside me to stand
He cheerfully lept up onto the hot burning pier
Just to be close enough if I needed a hand
No iridescence in the ocean could sparkle and glimmer
Nor any fairy fire of the forest glow and gleem
Like the emerald magic in his eyes when they shimmer
With the vibrance once only seen in my favorite dream
I have never seen darkness and sorrow
Learn how to be so gentle and kind
I never knew an embrace so selfless
Arms that hold tight, but do not bind
I have never seen someone's thoughts so clearly
Written allover the perfect features of their face
I have never seen such a perfect balance
Of silly, nervous, stumbling, confident, grace
I've never seen someone cut in half
By my verbal scythe so sharp it cuts to the soul
Forgive me so easily and risk further wrath
Just to try to keep my heart and mind whole
I have never seen a room so bright and cheerful
As the ones I am in when he walks through the door
I have never seen a soul so authentic and original
As the one that sees through it all and right to my core
