Too Clever.

Too Clever.

Too Clever.
Lee.

I’d like you to be innocent forever.
Because when you know, you know.
You can’t unlearn,
You cannot be blind to the seen,
Deaf to lies and truisms alike,
Unfeeling to tender touch or bruises,(both can impact the same).
You can’t put the baby back once it’s born, you just can’t.
I know it’s selfish for me to speak as I do,
But I know:
I’ve seen, I’ve looked away,
I’ve heard, been deaf,
I’ve bruised, been bruised,
Been a man, been a kid.
And if I had to choose, I’d choose to be a kid:
A kid at the back of the class,
Pretending to listen,
Pretending to see,
Pretending to learn.
Because when you know, you know,
And when you know, it’s the heaviest cross to bear.
