Torch

A torch in the dark
Signals me like a lighthouse.
But from the shore
I'm not ever far enough.
Not out of reach of danger.
Your heart can be that torch
I stay away from ----
Or comfort I find
In a television rerun.
The torch flickers, flame lively.
Soon as the fog rolls in
It's right as rain again.
Perhaps to crash
On your coast won't hurt so
Badly?
Perhaps it's Gallipoli?
Will the knowledge of death
Put life back into me?
Again, your heart is a torch.
I'm a ship, not knowing
Where to go,
Just that I don't stear blindly.
And I ought to have the wherewithal
To sail past your torch,
Or at least the courage to crash
Into the shoreline headfirst.
But instead I idle,
Not making up my mind
As to what my heart decides.
So I stay a frozen ship
To your torch in the night.

Great visuals and formatting, enjoyable and relatable read. I have been here before, feeling “stuck” frozen in time.
