Poem -

Torn Apart

Beneath the dry blood on a soldiers hands
lies his mother’s fingerprint
his mother has her old records
but nobody to sing them with

His mother had been worried sick
ever since that letter arrived
she had hoped she’d grow used to the idea
and that things would get better with time

But now the day is upon them
they must part from all they know
although he’ll be surrounded by men
like her, he’ll be all alone

So away he went to his duty
his cheek still wet from the kiss
now all he’ll have is memories
until the day the man sees fit.
