Toxic Romance

Toxic Romance

Lips pursed around the cork
A familiar kiss
She inhaled
or rather
She let it inhale her
Caress her
She let the clouds
Seethe through her roots
Capture her
Make her a slave to the smoke
Tightening the shackles with every toke
She let the smog pollute her
Only because
every gasp
flooded her lungs
with the tender warmth
she so deeply craved
But most of all
She was infatuated
By the bewildering paradox
of being poisoned and embraced
All at once
