Treading Water

Treading Water

My life is spent treading water
Longing some days for the waves to win
Struggle against the tide
As I hide from everything
Inside
Never making progress
Legs kicking
Furiously
Underneath me
Looking for dry land
In life’s vast ocean
Every day is the same
No advancement, no respite
No release in death’s delight
Just treading water
Marking time
