Poem -

Turning from the Gray

Turning from the Gray

Bound and burdened by shackles and chain
not of iron or steel but, of pain
confined in a dungeon of my own making
hiding behind smiles i’d been faking
breaking out is hard to do
concidering what I have been through
deciding to change although it’s hard
from a broken heart that’s long been scarred
so, I turn my back against the gray
and see the sun rise on a new day
today is the beginning of each tomorrow
a future spent rejecting pain and sorrow
a life unlived put away in the past
excited for change that’s come at last
the choice has always been mine to make
the light shown through and I’m finally awake
I see before me the beauty of a new day
embracing the brilliance of where I’ll stay
no more shackles, no more chain
the clouds have gone, no more rain
a bright and beautiful life for me
and the possibility of what could be
