Us Against the Skies

Us Against the Skies

Two close friends, now envious.
Stars, once a breeding ground to dodo bird’s wandering eye,
the sole light in a world illuminated by visual silence, lit our ancestors’ path.
Thousands upon thousands,
chewing away against darkness’ inexorable thrust.
A mesmerizing beacon of hope and wonder
captured by the naked eye.
The Aurora, flaunting its green roots,
the suns nightly dream,
Comes out to dance.
The audience,
the shilling sighs and yelping yells of gods inaudible children.
All play in harmony on this dark, eerie night.
A world untouched by man,
wrapped in a melody of natures pure songs.
Gaia and Erebus, earth and darkness, united as one.Yet, tides shifted,
mankind was born,
unnatural light filtered in,
and a relationship so close, so abruptly ended.
Our light, juxtaposing night's darkness.
A sky hidden,
afraid of what lies on earth's pores,
reflected upon the empty sky we see tonight.
A shy aurora, timid stars, a broken connection.
Us against the skies.
A breathtaking musical,
behind closed curtains.
For if only we dim our lights,
darkness can encompass our earth again,
as curtains open to a new show.
A friendship reborn.
So one day we will be able to discover the true beauty of our nighttime sky, once again.
