Valuable Words

Valuable Words

I used to say very valuable words with no meaning dripping from my lips.
I used to caress the face of another and pretend that he was 'it.'
Spreading the valuable words around like pennies, my heart became numb to the sound...
A dime here, a dollar there, my heart became number and number with all the ware.
You get used to the people who knock at your door, coming back for seconds, and wanting more...
But after awhile you start to get tired, your heart gets heavy, and those valuable words are less than a smile...
Tattered at the edges, like a forgotten note, crumpled and stepped on...
You lie to yourself, trying to believe those words mean something.
These three words make and break hearts.
These three words can poison a beautiful art.
I used to say these very valuable and dangerous words with no meaning on  my lips...

'I love you.'

And that was when I jumped over board...
That was when my heart tipped.

Numbly loving.
