~ VIGILANTE ~
I am a vigilante, in my own life's story
Taking aim at myself, denying myself glory
Undermining my own success
Assuring, I do not get required rest
I am the instigator of personal fights
Fighting myself in my dreams at night
I am a vigilante, going against
What I know to be best...
I write thousands of pages, but never finish the book
I notate the boldest of songs, but I leave out the hook
Then, wonder why I do this to myself
Instead of studying, leave the secrets upon the shelf
I travel the world, absorb volumes about many things
But stunt my ambition, when figuring what it all means
I am vigilante, diseasing my life
With the strangeness in things...
Now, at life's crux, I begin to fathom my shortcomings
Interpret the enigmatic, comprehend the odd in my beginnings
I can see the truth, in that which has narrowed my road
I intuit the wisdom in barriers, that have helped me to age slow
And know the strength I've gained, in not gaining glory
For it is the struggle that paints, a powerful history
Yes I, Vigilante, have a uniquely rewarding life's story...

The truth narrows the road hmmmm interesting.

Tony this is such a powerful write of introspection and self awareness...of a person who...if not always comfortable with their own being has learned on the journey to at least accept and finally be a friend to themselves....warts and all so to speak. At least, that is my interpretation of this marvelous work ...hugs 💕

You touched on interesting areas about self development and self awareness... at least that is what I got from my interpretation of your most enjoyable poem. Fascinating to see a bit behind the curtain, how the gears, the different schemes, ideas, techniques, which you use to fulfill your dreams...loved to see your Vigilante found hidden treasures...loved it me boy!
