Waiting for a Friend

Waiting for a Friend

Waiting for a friend,

Waiting for a friend.

Alone in the world

Waiting for a friend.

I am there in the rain, in the snow, in the wind.

I sit all alone, and wait for a friend.

I sleep on its hard surface

All through the night,

Wrapped in the arms of the bench very tight.

The bright moon above,

The cement ground below,

Waiting for a friend.

In the mornings I wake,

Wearing oh so thin.

On the seat of the bench which will soon cave in.

The bright sun above,

The warm ground below.

Waiting for a friend.

I have seen nature bloom, die, and regrow.

I have not left my bench, so afraid to let go.

For I know that when I get up,

A friend shall indeed come along.

And it will be too late, for I’ll be long gone.
