Waking

Hard to leave behind

The troubled notion 

The unbroken monotony 

Of vague impression

But a word

Will cut like light 

Through topography 

And vegetation

Undeterred and dominating 

Extravagant outpouring 

Psychic emanation

Of human creatures

Convivial strangers 

Skin deep 

A barrier yielding 

To anatomical change 

A hasty glance 

Craftsmanship 

Of expression and feeling 

Painted curtains 

In theatre 

With electric machines 

And blood- filled hearts

The surface now quite clear

Heterogeneous combination 

Of all that is plain

And all that is real 

Pieces of sky

Flashing, falling 

Unseen powers 

And guardian spirits 

Possessed of mythical wine 

Over- nourished, malignant 

Merciless, brainless 

Reminding always 

That impassable worlds 

Of multiform horizons

Exist only in the minds 

Of those whose minds 

No longer exist.
