Wapiti Morning

Wapiti Morning

Before the sun wakes
We’re driving, sipping coffee
As the morning sleeps

Soon we’ll be creeping
Where all the elk are sleeping
Bedded in the thick

Rifle hugging me
Crisp air seeping into me
Pure breath of wapiti

Thick scent that wakes you
Reminding you they’re out there
So close yet so far

Nose into the wind
Senses perked and listening
Here we go again

Snow rain wind terrain
The elements test your strength
Bringing you to life

Lessons emerging
From the depths of the forest
New discovery

This day could be calm
A fire, tea, and quick sleeping
Just their scent, teasing

Maybe you’ll get lucky
And find fresh tracks to follow
A test just for you

Intriguing and inventive approach to setting a scene through haiku...with remarkably evocative imagery.

Bravo!

Oh is such the scent
Of the blanket of rotting leaves
Still wet and damp, so flat

Ache (15 word challenge)

Is such love such a curse?
Ironic it hurts so much.
It evades, yet awaits.

Shallow is your love,
