A Wasted Moment

I was cold,
it was dark;
I woke up on a concrete floor.
As my eyes adjusted to the darkness,
I noticed I was surrounded by trash.
And as I tried to stand up
pain, confusion, and reality
ran throughout my mind, my body, and my memory.
I recalled the sounds of laughter,
the presence of close friends,
and the thumping of boss beats in the background.
But what I remembered most;
was the feeling of having fun.
Hoping my friends were awake;
I called out to them.
And while I waited for a response,
realization slowly rose within my mind;
they were not my real friends.
Ā And although I was confused,
I should be used to this;
it happens all the time.
With confusion aside;
pain then took its turn.
There were bruises all over my body
and I knew I was covered in my own blood.
Ā I already knew;Ā
I was once more beaten and robbed.
And as my pain became less painful;
reality stepped up.
I was naked.
Ā I was cold.
Ā I was all alone.
And worst of all;
somebody stole my brand new shoes.
It was at this point that I realizedā¦
That the love granted by pills never lasts,
and the friends made through the presence of alcohol
will always disappear,Ā
and when the money and treats are all gone;
I am left all alone.
And even though I crave this life,
and the good friends I find within it,
in this moment of clarity;
I will finally break free!
