We Are Not Alone

The day we launched our Goliath rockets into space
Was the beginning of the end for our planet;
Like daggers thrown from an assassin’s hand
We watched them soar high into the night sky
At the start of their mission to Mars;
From Russia, China, India and the West they went,
Each lifeless shell fashioned for war,
Seeking out an unknown foe.
We tracked their progress with breathtaking precision,
The whole world watched,
The whole world waited,
For a new beginning.
Our missiles reached their targets with devastating results,
Carving out huge craters from the red rock
As satellite images confirmed our worst fears;
And now our leaders hide like rats below the ground,
Too frightened to face a world they have condemned,
Too guilty to admit what they have done.
We know now that we are not alone in the universe
But our future hangs in the balance.
We track their war fleet with spine-chilling precision,
The whole world watches,
The whole world waits,
For its end.
