The Captive Moon

The Captive Moon

Surrounded by the cold, bleak wilderness of space

I survive in isolation,

Scorched by sunlight, frozen by the void,

Gazing at my nemesis as she spins in blue-white chaos.

I have noĀ loveĀ for your world

But you watch my every move,

Through telescopes and satellite eyes,

Searching the shadows of my confinement.

I am a prisoner, an unloved cousin,

Tied to your planet like a dancing bear,

Never able to leave your side

Yet crying out to be set free.

I have no dreams,

I dare not look to the stars,

For they too are captives,

Staring at the darkness from distant, lonely cells.
