Poem -

We never came home!

We never came home!

We Never came home.

We return home from war,
empty of emotions, strangers to everyone who once knew us.

We carry a wound that is hidden  and cannot be cured.

Everyday smells, tastes & noises send us back to the battlefield.

We wake everynight in sweat from night terrors, unable to get back to sleep as we are scared to revisit the horrors of war that haunt us.

But people will judge us as they do not understand the pain we suffer with a hidden wound.

We never came home.

Great poem Ben. I have the utmost respect for our service men and women. Some of them are sadly forgotten about or treat unfairly through the government's welfare system.

Thank you Syd means a lot to me.

I have myself served 14yrs in the British Army; with tours of the Former Yugoslavia (both Bosnia & Kosovo), Iraq & Afghanistan. Sadly I was injured on my last tour in Afghanistan, when the RAF Helicopter I was onboard was hit by enemy fire and crashed landed. I suffer from PTSD and physical injuries.

I’m one of the veterans who the Government has treated unfairly and forgotten about...

Hi Ben, I'm so sorry to hear that. I saw a headline in the paper the other week about an ex serviceman who had his benefits stopped because he'd missed just one appointment at the job centre. I'm not sure of the exact circumstances but he died.

The headline read 'Death By Benefit Cuts'

It made my blood boil.

Take care  - Syd

Hi Ben,

Very interesting to read your poem and I truly admire how you have dealt with the issues of your service.

It is people like you that make our country great, thank you for your service.

My dad served in Afghanistan in 2007 and lost a few friends whilst he was there. When were you there? Was it a hard tour? He was with the Gurkha's (I hope I spelt it right), who were you with? It sounds like you have a hard time.

I look forward to hearing from you, maybe one day we may get a chance to meet.

Love

Hi Ben - great account and I can feel the pain you are suffering. So sorry!

This account drives home the lingering suffering, that can hurt physically, and more importantly mentally, and play out in your mind affecting your life each day, and it must be extremely difficult to deal with. But, I like the fact that this needs to be said, and drives the message home to us all in how valuable service men and women have been, and how they should be highly thought of and respected with dignity and given all the help they require.

Take good care Ben

X
