What Are We?
Amateur in his primal trade,
We danced together in a dark embrace,
He had witnessed the ugliness of failed love,
And was too afraid to try again.
His skin adorned mine,
We were bare yet covered by the night,
I was the drink that quenched his thirst,
I made his fear of women end.
He was the tinder that lit my internal fire,
His lovers accused him of being a liar,
But he held me like I was a precious piece,
That fit into him to make him whole.
I was the coffee that treated his hungover morning,
With every touch, I could feel something dawning,
Everyone told him that I was too sensitive,
Yet to me he poured out his soul.
Is this how I was destined to fall?
With so much said, yet nothing said at all,
Is love ever this simple?
Have I done something wrong?
This new feeling will be my new high,
Will this budding rose live or die?
It’s too hard to say,
But time will answer before long.
