How do you define an American?

How do you define an American?
Does it mean that you're free and live in a democracy?
Think about the question I pose and remember American history. Freedom is a privilege remember the brave men and women in uniform that died for freedoms that some Americans take for granted such as: The right to vote, the right to bear arms, freedom of speech, religion, and etcetera. How do you define an American?
It means to have many freedoms that others have sacrificed for. To be an American is to respect those in our military. Remember What the American flag represents. Red stands for endurance. White stands for purity and innocence. Blue Stands for bravery. I am proud to be an American and thank those that sacrificed for our nation.
