When I Was Old
When I was old the first time
I rather thought I might
Forever avoid embarrassment
And maintain my childish delight.
When I was old the second time
I was mortified to discover
The sad inevitability
Of sharing secrets with another.

Dear T,
Every year that passes, we grow older every time
Each brings the realization, we're no longer in our prime
We look back in sad remembrance, of the days when we were young
Powerful like lions, climbing up life's rungs
Peace and Love,

Thanks for reading Larry, pleased you liked it. I don't mind the growing old, it's inevitable and I'm not harking back to my younger self...I believe I still have strength of will and purpose and character.....this was an observation perhaps rather about the things you see with more clarity as you get older - like the loss of optimism, the way some folk will let you down and even betray your faith in them and, perhaps, the way that we also let ourselves down as we pass through this thing we call life.

Hi T,
The older that I get, now being 74, the more I feel like there is still a young man within, trapped in an old man's body.Β I look back, and still feel like I could be in high school, asking myself, how did sixty years go by so quickly?
Thank you for your great response to my comment.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
Well they do say you're as old as you feel Larry....and tempus fugit is another one....keep the faith! :)
