When We Were Kids

The Slayed and The Sweet, were the glam bands for meÂ
With my hair getting a tad longer,a hint of City Rollers in betweenÂ
Every self respecting kid had tartan down the sides of their flares
Some had a tartan scarf tied round the wrist,we were kids,we had no cares
With our Chopper bikes,we were kings of the road
Three gear selection, let the bugger go
Some posh kids had skate boards with pretty coloured wheels
Some of us had to make do,with mini market deals
We were ok though,we didn’t give a stott
We would only laugh,at their debonairish snot
We were just kids,we didn’t have a care
We just made the most,of all what was there

I had a purple Schwinn bicycle that was made to look like a chopper, Dene.
It was a three speed if my memory serves me correctly.
I must've been around twelve or so. That was a long, loooooong time ago, lol.
Getting a kid to go and play outdoors today is about like pulling teeth. They have their XBoxes and Playstation 4's, not to mention computers, smartphones and the telly.
When I was young mom kicked us out of the house at 9:00 am in the summer and we didn't want to come back inside.
My, my...how times have changed, 'ey?

Hi dene, I really enjoyed this apart from the jealousy factor. I was the shortest kid to ever go to my secondary school. It is a housing estate now so the record will stand forever. I had to ride to secondary school on a Raleigh Chipper. Not a Chopper a 4 to 7 yrs Raleigh Chipper. Still have nightmares now.
