Poem -

who said that ?

who said that ?

I said what I said I said
but didn't say what I said
was said in any said way
other than how I said it
if you heard what I heard I said
but didn't hear what I said
was said in any said way
other than how you heard it
I said it anyway

do you ever say something to someone, and they totally don't understand, and go off on a tangent in a different direction to what you intended..when initially you thought they got what you meant..but they are a million miles away from that destination  ?

George Bernard Shaw once said that 'England and America are two countries divided by a common language'.
I've discovered the truth of this right here on Cosmofunnel. Occasionally, during one of my many exchanges with my dear friend Larry Ran, one of us will use a cultural reference or colloquialism which leads to confusion and misunderstanding on both our parts...these misunderstandings can sometimes spiral into further hilarity, some even lasting for days of exchanged messages/comments. Luckily for both of us, we have Larry's wise and perceptive wife Linda who invariably spots the initial source of confusion and sets us right (laughing her head off at us all the while, I'd imagine!).

I love this poem...funny, cleverly written and something of a tongue-twister for the mind! If you're not sure what I mean by that...in your own words...

I said it anyway

As a child I was influenced by Dr Seuss.. although never read The Grinch until the film came out.  I never met a child my age that read them..he made me an absorber of words.  This is how confusion begins..some people labour for months under false impressions only to learn later they were wrong ..then it's too late..and I find young people who never spent time with elders may as well be foregn as they often miss the point through ignorance of language and meaning ..I find many Americans know English better than the English..they take it to the max. (lol,)  but the difference s are hilarious..like " knocking somebody up'. here it means banging on their door to wake them.
but not in America.. although I think the meaning has now crossed the Atlantic and become universal.I find language compelling..what Shakespeare spoke we speak now...all of us..the guteral voice of life.  Words can truly pain us..if we let them..we all know that.
More so if spoken from someone we are bound to..in spirit...I am s feeling person..I've had to build barriers to stop the onslaught of words..I blame it on over reading as a child..lol..love your entwined words Jason..they belong in Stratford..think I'm going there soon for some culture...  Our love of writing..in all forms is glorious to see on cosmofunnel...
