Why...?

Why...?

One day a little boy was watching TV,
He saw the man on screen shed a tear,
He got confused, not sure what to believe
The boy had thought real men had no fear.

“Dad,” he says, “In real life, do men cry?”
“Only during the day and the night.”
The boy then asked “Why?”
“Because my son, the world isn’t always right”

Later, he was reading a book in bed,
The man in the story was furtive and uncouth.
This conflicted with what he believed in his head,
The boy had thought real men never told untruths.

“Dad,” he says, “In real life, do men lie?”
“Only during the day and the night”
The boy then asked “Why?”
“Because my son, the world isn’t always right”

Later, an officer came by while the boy’s dad was at war,
The boy couldn’t make himself believe what he said.
The boy started to cry and collapsed at the door,
He had thought good men never permanently go to bed.

“Mom, how often do good men have to die?”
The mom said only “too often, my son”
The little boy then asked “Why?”
She lowered her head as the tears started to run.
