Will Ye No Come Back Again?

Will Ye No Come Back Again?

And weel may I weep
Tae yer heart in my sleep.
A fond hand in mine,
And a lassie sae fine,
As tae cast a ray ae golden sun
Afore the moon; his work be done.
Aw the stars envy yer eyes
As hills envy the mountain, tae rise.

Yer glowin’ smile denies the heavens
O’ their sacred place wae men.
Is there a life tae be worth livin’
If ye don’t return tae me again?

O’ aw the hings that hae their worth,
Er’ the world gave to us birth,
Nae radiance that shines like you
Could pay the angels back their due.
The rocking wind carries yer perfume
And dancin’ it glides around the room
And finds the bed were ye used to lay
Afore ye upped and made yer way.

Ye rose in the morning, bright an’ early
And bad yer run like our guid Cherlie.
And just as aw his heroes lay slain,
Will ye no come back again?

Yer memory still haunts ma mind
As tae another’s love, yer now inclined.
Tell me, does he smile the way I do,
When gid laughter makes me hink o’ you?
I never knew that love wis sae cruel,
Until he taen frae me ,ma jewel.
And tell me, do ye ever think o’ me,
When summer breezes set ye free?

I leave the door until the dawning
Wae hope tae wake tae you in the morning.
But ma sleepless nights have been in vain.
Will ye no come back again?
