Winter Kill

Winter Kill

On vast ranches, where summer's sun

Once warmed the herd, its course is run

The wind, a blade of frosted steel

Across the plains, its purpose to reveal

Winter's fist, a grip so tight and cold

On ranches where stories of cattle are told 🐄🐄🐄

A sculpted blizzard of winter's hand

Carving drifts of snow across the land

Where cattle roamed, a burning brand 🐄🐄🐄

Blistering winds tanning hides of cattle

Ice and snow of winter's harsh battle

Cattle ribs begin to show, hunger's stark

Winter kill, a tragic mark

The winter kill, a silent toll

Upon the rancher's heavy soul

A bitter harvest of beef to come this winter 🐄🐄🐄🥩🥩🥩
