Winter's cough

My lungs came out of my chest
To gulp at the fresh air

And catch T.B.!

A winter's cough had set in.

The chilled wine wouldn't help.

The season might as well

Have been hell

Were it not so cold.

The body not as young as it used to be.

But I had a full

Head of hair still

To stay warm with.

I would refuse to get it cut.

I just lay there,

Not being able to breathe.

Thinking of you, maybe, but in abstract

Only.
