Wolf among the fleece

Wolf among the fleece

The Sabbath calls the shepard
to round us up once more
here's another pasture
lushness we adore.
The hand of guidance preaches
the faithful lift their eyes
but some of them have wandered
yet they wonder why.
Not temptations seeds
or vices that do roam
this poison is more potent
malignancy at home.
Was it those fine shepards?
who cradled lambs in arms
who promised their protection
but only brought the harm.
Or voices of self righteous
casting some astray
those of good heart
who loved another way.
Spoils of glory hoarded
without a pause for thought
of starving and illiterate
at who's side they fought.
He may be one among you
a mind of joy and peace
but pious hearts do harden
a wolf among the fleece.
