The World Spins

The world spins and tries to fling us off, so  we clutch tight,

Still the things we hold close will someday take flight,

And there we are grasping at naught but empty air,

It’s easy to say that it is the world and it just ain’t fair,

But what if there is a purpose to the way the world turns us,

What if we listened to what it was trying to say over all the fuss,

Whatever you choose to believe in,

You have to admit that things change for a reason,

Call it God, call it the universe or just Darwin,

If you look past the puppet show that we all perform in,

And you stare real hard you can faintly make out the figure of strings,

Why would I try so hard to ponder the cause of life and chaotic things,

Because the world keeps spinning in its crazy way,

And there’s no time to yearn for yesteryear or even yesterday,

So we can’t take too long of a look at the past,

As any runner would say, looking over your shoulder puts you in last,

Not that life’s a race or that we shouldn’t  let the past inform our pace,

We should learn from our litany of mistakes,

Be better today and clean up our mess,

These, I believe are, some simple steps to happiness.
