wounded animals

wounded animals

wounded animals
     cry, scream, whimper for help
     they kick and sometimes
     they don't let you near
there are others that cry in silence
that's how they are
that’s how we are
wounded animals
nevertheless
by instinct for self-preservation
     we keep hope
     that someone will come and
     with courage and goodwill
         help us
then afterwards
     we lick our wounds
     thinking nobody is watching us
that's how they are
that’s how we are
while hope remains undying
while we don’t die
     inside
