The Wrong Man

The Wrong Man
Gabriel Magno © 2001
The village town folks feel the pain, as a roving madman claimed four lives
The savage killer now bound in chains, the husbands calm their grieving wives
"It was not me" he shouts in vain, as they prepare the hangman’s noose
The angry crowd shouts out his name, as the village lawmen now produce
A bloodied knife they hold up high, the crowd screams louder then before
"Kill him, kill him, hang him high", as the preacher now implores
"Let him not be judged before, we know he is the one indeed
A Satan’s servant who did this chore, who did this foul and evil deed"
The preacher silenced as the hangman tied, the killers hands behind his back
And when the trap door opened wide, his fate was sealed, his neck did crack
And as the crowd went on their way, a man approached, was heard to say
"I’ve seen the killer, this is not him, I’ve seen his figure, short and slim"
"This man is plump, this man is tall, the killer’s body was rather small".
And so the town folks bowed their heads in shame, the preacher reeled and blessed them all
A man approached and saw them grieve, he spoke of one more gruesome sight
"There was another death this eve, another lady of the night".
And so the village locked their doors, they were not joyful, were not chipper
And as the mayor now implores, the village name him Jack The Ripper
