Poem -

Yes, I am That Girl

Yes, I am that girl
The one who sits
Silently in class
Only speaking
If spoken to

Yes, I am that girl
Who is the only person
That does not believe
That she is smart

Yes, I am that girl
Who thinks that her thighs
Are fat
That her stomach
Sticks out too far
Who wishes
That she had a
Bigger
Bolder
Nose
But still believes
That it is her best feature

Yes, I am that girl
Who criticizes others
In her mind
Only to drown out
The criticizes
Coming to her
From her

Yes, I am that girl
Who can't speak her mind
But can pour it out
Onto the torn pages of her notebook
Tediously taped back together
Lines so fine you can't see the marks

Yes, I am that girl
Who doesn't keep a diary
But if she did
It would be speckled with wrinkles
From the tears that a pencil
Cannot erase

Yes, I am that girl
That no one picks on
Not anymore
No one but herself
Because deep down inside her heart
She can still hear the echoes
Of the names that they called her

Yes, I am that girl
The one that
In spite of all that
Can still muster the strength
To walk out of he door of her room
Everyday of her life.
